The release of the <strong>US employment report<\/strong> for January was postponed for Wednesday the 11th of February and is expected to be closely watched.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-canada-s-january-employment-data-and-japan-s-elections\"><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>Canada\u2019s January employment data and Japan\u2019s elections<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Today we highlight the release of <strong>Canada\u2019s employment data<\/strong> for January and should the release show a looser Canadian employment market than expected we may see the <strong>Loonie <\/strong>losing further ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Japan, <strong>Parliamentary elections<\/strong> are to be held on Sunday which tends to increase volatility for <strong>JPY <\/strong>pairs. A negative scenario for the Yen in our opinion would be a hung parliament or even worse should the opposition come to power, while a landslide win of <strong>Takaichi\u2019s <\/strong>LDP could provide some support as uncertainty could be reduced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also please bear in mind that as JPY weakens the possibility of a market intervention to JPY\u2019s rescue increases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-bitcoin-dominated-by-bears\"><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>Bitcoin dominated by bears<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The wider <strong>risk off<\/strong> sentiment, the heated discussion of US Treasury <strong>Bessent <\/strong>with US lawmakers on Wednesday about <strong>Bitcoin<\/strong>, his comments that the US would not be bailing out the cryptocurrency, all tended to intensify the drop of the cryptocurrency\u2019s price over the past two days. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall we see the case for the current <strong>fundamentals <\/strong>to continue to weigh on the cryptocurrency, yet we may see some sort of verbal <strong>market intervention<\/strong> to ease crypto trader\u2019s worries. We expect a long and worrying weekend for <strong>crypto traders<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-us-stock-markets-on-the-retreat\"><strong><strong>US stock markets on the retreat<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>US equity markets<\/strong> were on the retreat yesterday with <strong>technology shares<\/strong> leading the drop. <strong>Concerns <\/strong>about high AI investment are understandable, given the high leverage of a number of companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Latest example was Amazon which delivered <strong>its earnings reports<\/strong> in yesterday\u2019s aftermarket hours, as it plans an oversized investment of $200billion in AI, enhancing <strong>market worries<\/strong> for its <strong>outlook<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall, should market worries intensify further, we may see US equities continuing to retreat, as the risk-off sentiment could be enhanced, with special focus on the <strong>tech sector<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-charts-to-keep-an-eye-out\"><strong><strong>Charts to keep an eye out<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>USD\/CAD<\/u><\/strong> continued to rise yesterday teasing the 1.3720 (R1) <strong>resistance line<\/strong>. Yet we hesitate to adopt a <strong>bullish outlook<\/strong> yet as the RSI indicator is still near the reading of 50.
